Hello again and happy Friday, everyone!
Welcome to Day #2 of my Holiday Blog series, Festive Friday.
For today, I’ve got something warm and cozy in store you. With Thanksgiving fast on the way, I was planning on featuring my famous stuffed mushrooms for today’s post, but I wanted to keep things a little more simple with how busy things have been lately. I also may have eaten most of the mushrooms already because I forgot I was saving them and my hunger got the best of me. Heh heh…This leads us to plan B which is my favorite go-to warm beverage that is perfect for this time of the year and guaranteed to keep you warm and cozy.
This is a very straightforward recipe and I don’t claim to be a chef or anything even remotely resembling one. I may have a creative side, but that is better off staying amongst the inedible variety. This drink calls for very few ingredients and can be customized according to your own tastes and preferences.
Almond Ginger Soy Latte (serves 2)
- 5 cups Unsweetened Vanilla Soy Milk
- 1 Tbs Ground Ginger
- 1 tsp Cinnamon
- 5-10 drops of Almond Extract
- 2 Tbs Maple syrup
- Dash of Cayenne Pepper (optional)
I used about 5 cups of soy milk and added the above ingredients to the pot and simmered it on low heat. I am an avid almond lover as well as all things ginger. For the almond extract, I probably used close to 10 drops, but to have a little more subtle taste, 5 drops should be good. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any fresh ginger on hand so I used my shaker of ground ginger. The maple syrup is what gives the drink its sweetness. I do my best to avoid refined sugar in my meals and I usually drink my tea and coffee straight up without it. However, sometimes it’s nice to treat yourself (especially around this time of the year).
Stir this concoction until it has a nice hot steam, add a dash of cinnamon or ginger on top and voila! I added a few shakes of cayenne as well to give it a little more heat. Faint of heart (and heat) feel free to skip this step. As I said, this was a very quick and simple drink to make, but is one of my absolute FAVORITES for when it is cold outside.
Now that we’ve all got our warm beverages, let’s chat a little about recent happenings. I was planning on posting an art update blog on Monday, but in all honesty, I’ve been really busy updating my studio space and getting things ready for my appearance in a craft fair next weekend for Shop Small Business Saturday. For those who didn’t know, I’ll be one of the vendors among other artists, crafters, and small business owners gathering at The Healthy Hangout. The event takes place on November 24th at 3220 Bridge Street NW in St Francis, MN 55070 and goes from 10am-2pm for those that are local.
How great is this drink, you guys?! I am so super cozy writing this blog by the fireplace and this is the perfect drink to accompany the quiet ambiance. Anyway, back to the subject. I’m planning on hosting a drawing at the event for an art giveaway. I’m not sure if this will be a gift basket or a single large painting or a combination. I am still deciding on what exactly I want to do, but I do want it to be special. In order to enter, all you need to do is stop by my booth and put your name in the drawing. After the event, the winner will be pulled at random and announced later that evening on my social media, so be sure to follow those leads so you don’t miss your name. I’ll leave links to my most used social media at the bottom of this post, but all of my channels can be found at the bottom of my home page.
I think it’s about time to wrap this post up. Thinking about the upcoming event has me realizing all of the things I’ve still got to do to be ready for next week! Be sure to tune in on the coming blogs for sneak peeks at the content and art I am preparing for the sale next weekend! See you all again next week! Have a great night!
